Shots of Nature

As a tribute to the upcoming end of April and Spring, here are some shots of a lovely day.

Here's me trying [failing] to achieve some shallow depth shots with a wide angle lens using very close focus on the leaves.

This precious dog was so friendly she jumped right up when she saw me taking her picture from afar and tried to jump on me when I got up close. I love dogs.

The Royal Wedding

Today I celebrate along with everyone in the UK.

Kate Middleton, now Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge, is the symbol of class and elegance. I wish there could be pictures and video of Prince Harry's after party.

At the Docks

These are some more photos I took underneath the bridge at the Annapolis Harbor.

Anchors Aweigh in Annapolis

A friend and I purchased this great deal on Groupon for PhotoTourDC. It's basically a sightseeing tour and a photography lesson wrapped up in one, sweet, four hour afternoon. You can take the phototour in one of three places: the National Monuments in Washinton DC, the historical setting in Adams Morgan, and the beautiful harbor in Annapolis and can use any type of camera.

My friend and I chose to do the Anchors Aweigh tour in Annapolis since neither of us had ever been there. The overall experience was quite enjoyable! Annapolis was very beautiful, the weather was warm but not too warm, there were ice cream shops left and right, and our instructor, Lyn, was great! He was very knowledgeable, great at explaining concepts and techniques, and made sure he had some one on one time with each of us to see what kind of progress we were making. All-in-all, I'd give the day an A for awesome.

PhotoTourDC is great for photo enthusiasts who want to learn more about what their camera can do, how to compose good pictures and how to capture life on camera right as it happens. I would recommend doing the tour with a clear idea of what you want to learn and improve on for the day so you can take full advantage of the one-on-one time with the instructor.

Now on FB!

I've finally decided to just put my pictures on Facebook. It's free, accessible, crazy simple to navigate, and I can easily sort my pictures into categories. Please give me a "like" if you have the chance.

Little Las Vegas

I took these pictures from the plane on the way to Las Vegas. In the last few minutes before landing, we flew over this flat stretch of houses and land, which were in stark contrast to the assortment of lines, shapes, and buildings I saw when we flew over The Strip. I remember thinking that I was probably looking at the houses that hotel, bar, casino and restaurant employees went home to after a busy night of work.

Upon the recommendation of the most professional, amateur photographer I've met, I used TiltShiftMaker to create the miniature effect seen in these photos. The software is actually pretty cool. It's an online editing software and completely free! You don't even have to register to use it.

DC Eastern Market

The Eastern Market in Washington DC is a bohemian-style public market where vendors sell different types of handcrafted wares, arts and crafts, fresh fruits, sea food and deli items. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday and is located in the Southeast near Capitol Hill.

I went there a few weeks ago on a Sunday morning and though I didn't really buy any handcrafted items (quite pricey!), I did manage to snag a huge bag of kettle-popped, mixed berry popcorn for only $6. from BiggPoppaKettleKorn. The stall is really hard to miss! I saw about a dozen people walking around with different flavors of popcorn and I just followed them all to the source. BiggPoppa also delivers and they have a website where people can order online. I completely regret not taking a picture of the popcorn.
